Halo: Reach Might Include Natal Functionality

In a recent interview with The Seattle Times, Bungie Studio President Harold Ryan revealed that Halo: Reach could potentially support Natal controls:

Bungie also received an early look at the “Project Natal” motion-sensing controller Microsoft is developing for the Xbox. Studio President Harold Ryan said he’s enthusiastic about the device and it could be used in “Reach,” another version of “Halo” expected in the fall of 2010. “I absolutely think ‘Reach’ could be enabled with it,” he said.-seattletimes.com

Again, nothing is confirmed from Bungie or Microsoft so don’t get your hopes up.  But it’s rather strange that Bungie would say such a thing unless they had a good idea as to how Natal works, since we’re so far away from the release of both Halo: Reach and Project Natal itself.

New Graphical Engine Confirmed?

It’s been spotted a number of times around the internet that Halo: Reach will boast a new graphics engine.  However, we’ve yet to hear any confirmation from Bungie or Microsoft.  But today we may have been given a fairly big clue:

A few job sightings reveal that Bungie is indeed building up a force that works to code and implement a new experience in the Halo universe. The role of the senior artist/3D Hard Surface Artist shall be working on “ to develop a visually-inspired AAA title,” the Senior Engine Programmer will “ build an Engine to both create great games and also power the biggest slingshot in human history.”-skoar.com

DonMattrick Tweets are Fake

Don A. Mattrick is the Senior Vice President of Interactive Entertainment Business, Entertainment and Devices Division. This Twitter account surfaced a couple of days ago. To some, simply the name was enough to take tweets as true and accurate but something seemed funny when only tweets giving away key information about various products and services were being sent out.

The tweet that HRI was interested in  was, well, the one about Halo: Reach..

donmattrick

The Tweet would have confirmed that a shiny new engine would be used on Halo: Reach. Needless to say, this account is a fake. Microsoft’s people have contacted twitter and the account is likely to removed. Who’s to say that Halo: Reach won’t run on a new engine though?

Halo 3 Reach

halo 3 reachThere has been some confusion about the name of this game. Upon doing a Google search, “Halo 3 Reach” is commonly used in reference to what is really “Halo: Reach”.  This mix up is understandable as there has been several Halo-based games out in the past several years. To focus on an upcoming game, Halo 3: ODST is probably where “Halo 3 Reach” is coming from. Since i didn’t catch the E3 announcement, I was actually under the impression that the game title was “Halo 3 Reach”, but only for a few minutes!

Bottom line: Halo: Reach not Halo 3 Reach.

Could Halo: Reach be Squad Based?

With the Character silhouettes more than less deciphered, one can only speculate that Halo: Reach may be squad based, or at least  more tactical-oriented than the previous halo games(granted, Halo 3 ODST has yet to release).  The silhouettes featured in the Halo: Reach E3 Trailer and on the Halo: Reach Box Art seem to mean something significant but most cannot put their finger on it.

Bungie suggesting a more tactical, more military, squad based type game isn’t to far-fetched, keeping in mind that they did release a little game called Halo Wars, an RTS and very much about tactics.

What to Expect

For those of you who haven’t yet read the Halo novels, IGN has written up a nice 3-page article on what to expect from Halo: Reach based on The Fall of Reach and First Strike.  Of course, it’s mere speculation at this point since we haven’t gotten any concrete details yet from Bungie.  Even so, the article is a great refresher for those who can’t quite remember what went down in the novels and are too lazy to give them another read.

Possible Leak or Prankster?

A Bungie forum member by the name of P40L0 360 recently posted what seems to be some very insightful information about Halo: Reach. You know how Bungie forums members are though.. I would take this with a huge grain of salt!

-It’s an FPS, and not a MMO or similar (and ok)
-It’s more Multiplayer/Online oriented then previous Halo, and the SP Campaign will be something “different” to what we’ve seen so far with the previous games.
-The game is under development since after Halo 3, and for more time then ODST (that is developed by a small part of the team, and it was done in 1 year and an half)
-New graphic engine!
-The multiplayer will be different/new.
-It’s the “next big Halo” for Bungie and Microsoft, same importance as an Halo 4
-It’s everything “darker” and more serious.
-150 people are working on the Project since 2007

Halo: Reach Shadow Characters Unravel

By this time you’ve probably seen enough of that same old image that Bungie released along with the Trailer at E3. Well, i think we can safely say the the group of soldiers shadowed or silhouettes are now identified as The Characters from Eric Nylund’s novel Halo:The Fall of Reach.

The soldier in the center is none other than the Master chief himself.

Is Halo: Reach a First Person Shooter?(FPS)

..and the answer is        YES. Are you surprised? The trailer was possibly a little misleading having it set as a planet explodes and chatter going on back and forth from what is prosumed to be units on land and in space. joystiq reportedly spoke to Microsoft’s john Schappert in which he responded the the question with “of coarse it’s an FPS”.
