Reach Connections in ODST

Well, TGS has unfortunately come and gone without seeing any new Halo: Reach footage from Bungie or Microsoft.  The only thing we can give you is Joseph Staten’s recent OXM interview, in which he briefly talks about the game:

“The Halo Universe has always had these interconnections but when we made ODST we had the luxury of knowing the Halo game we were going to make next,” he told the mag. “So it made a lot of sense to us to put those kind of connections in.”

“We certainly put Buck in as a representative of Reach,” Statten told OXM. “Buck has very specific lines about what he witnessed on planet Reach and we absolutely wanted to telegraph some of that stuff. Whether or not he’s going to show up in Halo Reach we’re not talking about / have no idea.”

Former Uncharted Developer Working on Reach

Rob Adams was formerly employed at Naughty Dog Studios for more than 7 years, playing not only a major part in the Jak & Daxter series (including the mediocre Jak X: Combat Racing for the PS2) but also in Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune for the Playstation 3. Now he’ll play a role in a game whose beta alone Microsoft claims will sell the upcoming Halo ODST.

Adams has been working on Halo: Reach as the Senior Environment Artist at Bungie for more than a year, “building environments” and “helping develop tools, pipeline, and production methods”.

Too Early for Project-Natal

Bit by bit we try and piece together information about Halo: Reach. You may recall the past hype about Halo: Reach possibly making use of Project-Natal, a device that promises to change the way gaming is done by incorporating motion-tracking capabilities along with voice recognition. VideoGamer recently caught up with Alex Cutting, producer on Halo 3: ODST from Microsoft Game Studios. Alex had this to say:

“A lot of people are interested in what Natal’s presence in Halo’s going to be. We are committing to only doing it when it makes sense. We are not going to produce a gimmicky feature

G4TV Interviews Brian Jarrard, Talk About Reach.

Patrick Klepek of G4tv.com got a chance to interview Bungie’s Brian Jarrard, in which they briefly talk about Halo: Reach.

G4: It seems like, at least with the art you’ve shown for Reach and the approach you’ve taken with the new side characters in ODST, you seem to be purposely doing Halo but not doing Master Chief. Is there an intentional getting away from that a little bit?

Jarrard: Yeah. I mean, I know when the guys sat down and started this project, the first question that they did ask was “alright, is this game going to be about Master Chief or not?” Just fictionally, timelines wise, it just really didn’t work out and it just also wasn’t very interesting for them because people had just come off playing Halo 3 and I think the character as ODST is something the fans have always been super…there’s always been a lot of love for these guys. In the lore, they fight alongside Master Chief, they’re these mysterious, shadowy spec ops guys.

Reach Footage at Tokyo Game Show? Possibly.

Gamerzine.com has a few details as to what Microsoft has in store for this year’s Tokyo Game Show, including debut footage of Halo: Reach.

We’ve been informed by one of our development ninjas that the controller-less Project Natal should be on show with a selection of previously shown games.

Moreover, a new Rare title is expected to be announced at the event, though it’s not believed that Natal capability will be shown just yet, despite the UK studio working closely with the technology.

Square Enix and Capcom are scheduled to be showing some new Xbox 360 games (not necessarily exclusive) with the announcement of Final Fantasy XIV for Microsoft’s console being one of the company’s surprises.

Bungie will also début footage of Halo Reach at the event, which was our sources most confident piece of information

Firefight in Reach? It’s up to you.

During Bungie’s Halo 3: ODST panel at PAX, Brian Jarrard briefly talked about Halo: Reach:

“I can’t talk too much about Reach specifics, but hopefully the game mode’s going to be received as well we think it will be, and people are going to enjoy it. I don’t think we’ve ever been known to really take things away from each successive release, so I think it’s safe to say that if Firefight gets a lot of traction and people love it, it probably has a good future home in our next title as well.”

Squad-Based without the Baggage

In a recent GTTV episode meant to highlight Halo 3: ODST and the reveal of “Kizingo Boulevard,” a tank-based level that follows an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper near the middle of the story, also revealed a little piece of the puzzle for those who are following Halo: reach(we hope you are!) Towards the end of the episode, Host Geoff Keighley tries to squeeze any bit of info out of Bungie’s creative director, Joe Staten. What he said was interesting to say the least.
