Halo: Reach Quitters Will be Punished

Posted 02 Aug 2010 in Multiplayer,News

ragequittersOh, yes. If you’ve played Halo 3, then you are well aware of these ‘ragequitters’, maybe you have even done it yourself at some point. A ‘ragequitter’ is someone who can’t take the heat, whether that be because of a pro player on the opposing team, his or her own weak playing ability or some trash talk he / she just can’t handle. Bungie is making it clear that quitters will think twice before abandoning their teammates and leaving them for dead. Jarrard tells X360A that there will be penalties for quitting out early, but those penalties have yet to be released.

This begs a question or two: Will quitters who make a habit out of it eventually be banned? Will they lose voice privileges or be kicked out of ranked matches? “We actually have new tools now to detect that and eventually, people who do this habitually will actually be penalized,” Jarrard said, “We want to be able to remove them from the population so they can’t make everyone else keep having a bad time.”

Ok but here is a problem i see what if they have to leave say if something came up what if maybe your going on a trip and to fill the time before you leave you start playing reach and then you are yelled at its time to go and ther still is a good amount of time left in the match are they goimg punish people for stuff like that for having to leave for an inconveience like that i have situitans like this all the time but cause how they take away exp i don't.

Agreed with Dukeruez, I quit when playing against mod-ers who make the game no fun or in instances when I find mysefl one player against a bunch. Hope they write this into the algorythm for penalties. Im A-OK loosing by a huge margin and having a fair fight as far as no mods and no wieghting issues

I never quit and always aim to get a +kd spread. Loosers that jump out consistantly need to be banned

I sometimes have to quit. Things come up in "the real world" that I didnt expect so I quickly have to leave the game. If this happens, do I deserve to be banned? Because of a few emergencies? Or because something more importnant I didnt know about came up? No. Plus, if I am going to pay for a game, I will sue someone if I get banned for *quitting*
  • KMCGamer360
I highly doubt you are going sue. I think you should tone it down to "Complain".. :/

to me its BS that your win/lose ratio is the one that shows up as your service record....so wat u lose more games, to me that just sez u gett crappy team mates, i think your k/d should be more of judge in skill than win/lose ratio

But what if you have to lave right away or something comes up and you need to get off and therefore have to quit because you cannot stay for the game.
  • Hi Nick,

Please read the few previous comments. That should clear things up for you.

I only quit when there are cheaters, I mean the type that you can obviously tell. Its the one thing I can not deal with. If you are going to penalize quitters then you must find a way to penalize cheaters. Mods, mod controllers, turtle beach head gears all that to me is cheating. I was in MLG and XGC and EG all of whice are paid gamer groups. 9out of 10 of them had some sort of mod. So tell me if you are worried about quitters more than cheaters does that not sound fishy. Cheaters ruin a game, not one person leaving, now one cheater that can turn the tide in just a minute.

Id Hate to burst your bubble, but turtle beaches are not cheating. if anything, its your fault for not having a pair. If you cant beat em, join em.

Honestly, this system will end up just being a nuisance and I hope that we have a choice between whether or not we want to use it (As in choose a server where it's not active) because some of us have things pop up, and "ragequitting" shouldn't be taken so seriously. I'm not one to baaawwww and quit a game because of pro players or something stupid like trash talk. I leave games because sometimes, I would prefer to choose something other than that type of match when steam rolls come around.

"Don't start the game at all until youknow you will finish it." That's quite a horrible choice right there, things come up and sometimes you'd rather quickly get into a match with your buddies rather than sit around with the match. Stop using Saturday Morning Cartoon tactics such as "One person can make a difference!" and these are not to quote.
  • Things do come up and sometimes people have to leave a game, i agree. It's the people who make a habit of it that will find themselves penalized. I can't imagine Bungie would act on just a few quits or even 10-20 quits in a month. Those who actively and habitually quit should be penalized.

whenever i Quit it is becuse i go on a privet mach with my freinds not becuse i am annoyed or becuse i am a 'noob' its jut i want to go on a different mach - and i am being punished for the ability to chose what to do - i am shure meany other people were agravated as i was with the stupid message that came up every time i left a mach
  • To be honest, you should be punished for that. It greatly effects the outcome and general quality of the game when someone leaves. Stay, finish the game, then meet up with your buddies, either that or don't start the game at all unless you know you will finish it.

I agree with this system and thnink it will make a serious difference to multiplayer for both hardcore and casual players. By the way i still wanted a gears of war type campaign matchmaking because so that even if freinds are not available i could play a few missions.

what if the light juty goes out of my house or connection is lost
it wouldnt be right to punish me for this
  • Basdebel
But if my connection hase a bad time and i get kicked out of the system because my internet cant handle the match or cant connect with the host then i get banned too this system sucks u have to see or ur really a quitter or its just ur internet
  • In the interview with X360A, Brian Jarrard does say that the algorithm used will differentiate between quitting and disconnects. No worries.

The penalties should be against the host advantage. When dedicated servers? Artificial lag to the host? Host advantage and Lag are the real issues on this game
