Reach = Halo + Battlefield?
Once in a while someone will pitch something, new or old, in order to spark interest and conversation. sarcasticgamer’s Lono recently wrote up a little article speculating That Halo: Reach may have class-based multiplayer. This isn’t a new theory, in fact, most theories were all mentioned days after the Halo: Reach e3 Trailer was announced. You may recall my own theory that Halo: Reach may be squad-based. Squad-based gameplay and class-based gameplay are admittedly different but they fall into the same area on the multiplayer spectrum.
Lono writes: Is it all coming together in your head yet? Why is Halo Reach having a multiplayer beta? ODST didn’t have one. Why, because they’re using the same engine and gameplay in ODST. Reach will obviously have a new engine and a whole new style of multiplayer. What “style” do you ask? It’s simple: a class based multiplayer similar to games like the Battlefield series. What else could that picture show. One guy has a sniper rifle, one has Battle Rifle, one has a knife, one has a pistol and one has a heavy weapon of some kind. If that doesn’t scream out multiplayer classes, they you need to be hit in the head again.
This may be in fact what Bungie is going for with Halo: Reach, then again, it may be more squad-based, or none of the above. Keep in mind that up until now, all Bungie developed Halo games have been straight forward First Person Shooters. It would make since for them to try a new approach this time around. With Halo 3: ODST on shelves now, it’s only a matter of time before some ground-breaking information is released.
