Squad-Based without the Baggage

In a recent GTTV episode meant to highlight Halo 3: ODST and the reveal of “Kizingo Boulevard,” a tank-based level that follows an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper near the middle of the story, also revealed a little piece of the puzzle for those who are following Halo: reach(we hope you are!) Towards the end of the episode, Host Geoff Keighley tries to squeeze any bit of info out of Bungie’s creative director, Joe Staten. What he said was interesting to say the least.

“We’re really excited about telling a story with more Spartans in it.”

When asked about Halo: Reach being squad-based:

“Without any of the baggage of sort of squad-based combat, I think that would be a safe assumption.”

This brings up a couple of new questions. If Halo: Reach will somewhat resemble a squad-based action FPS then what does “without the baggage” mean? One could speculate that Halo: Reach strips down some of the complex commands of a traditional squad-based shooter in hopes to simplify things. Let’s not forget about Project Natal either.
